What the client wanted: The Faedo growers’ cooperative needed a watering system with centralized control, for a number of agricultural enterprises occupying an area of 110 hectares overall, planted mainly with vines. The system had to operate in an area characterized by particularly fragmented water supplies and mountainous terrain. Neither connection by cable nor GSM connectivity would be easy.

The Clabermeteo solution: a system equipped with 165 valves, controlled and supervised by an IDS Decoder Watering System with radio modem and radio decoder. By using radio technology to transmit control signals to field components, certain practical problems were immediately overcome: limited GSM reception disallowing reliable communication by phone, and the high installation cost that would be incurred by laying an electrical cable to connect the valves.

The installation took account of peculiarities in the relief of the terrain, so that even at the preliminary design stage, there would be no doubt as to the reliability of the radio signal in piloting the operation of the valves.

The advantages:

  • Radio link between control software and decoders in the field
  • Watering customized to suit each individual crop
  • Optimized management of water resources
  • Low installation costs
  • Battery powered decoders
  • Future system expandability
